The Alliance of Sahel States (French: l’Alliance des États du Sahel) AES states are about to adopt a common currency, establish a Central Bank and become a federation.
This is the declaration resulting from the first meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), held between November 30 and December 1, 2023 in Bamako.
AES is made up of the three suspended ECOWAS states under military rule : Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger republic.
Others also refer to them as ASS, some say SSA.
The three coordinating Ministers of Economy and Finance of the three different states recommended the creation of a stabilization fund and an AES investment bank as well as the establishment of a committee responsible for deepening discussions on questions of economic and monetary union as well as a federation.
Observers believe that this signals a threat on France’s CFA franc which will finally seal the death of the financial dominance of the former colonial masters.
“What you have in the AES will not last. We will destabilize them.” former French ambassador to Mali said.
