AWKA—The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has praised the state’s new security initiative, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, for its effectiveness and urged it to sustain its efforts in tackling insecurity.
In a statement released Tuesday, Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, said the Council, at its second meeting of the year on February 10, rated the initiative highly and emphasized its continued importance.
While reviewing the impact of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, the Council condemned attempts to misrepresent the law as targeting traditional worship. It reiterated that the law aims to combat crime perpetrated by fraudulent native doctors who distort Igbo cultural values.
“The government recognizes that traditional worship is an integral part of Igbo religion and culture,” Mefor said. “The law is strictly against criminal elements who exploit these traditions for personal gain, deceive the youth, and promote the dangerous idea of wealth without work.”
The Council reaffirmed that the government had no intention of banning traditional worship and called for moral rearmament and social reforms to restore the state’s core values.
N160M Approved for Solid Minerals Development
ANSEC also commended beneficiaries of the “1Youth, 2Skills” initiative for voluntarily undertaking to train 1,000 additional youths, calling their gesture a “remarkable milestone.”
The Council approved N160 million for the acquisition of five additional mining assets for the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company, expanding the state’s footprint in the sector. The assets include:
•Pharmaceutical Grade Kaolin Asset
•Gravel Pack Asset
•Glass Sand Asset
•Sand Quarry
•Ceramic Kaolin Asset
“These acquisitions will enhance Anambra’s economic growth and job creation in the solid minerals sector,” Mefor said.
