Chief Joe Igbokwe, a notable chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed concern over the increasing electricity tariffs in Nigeria, warning that the steep costs could cripple businesses if not addressed promptly.
In an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he shared on his Facebook page, Igbokwe detailed how the recent hikes in electricity costs have affected his business and urged the government to take immediate action.
“President Tinubu, I urge you to review the new electricity tariffs in Nigeria. They are unsustainable and will destroy businesses if the government doesn’t act quickly,” Igbokwe wrote. “I have a small office in Surulere with around seven air conditioning units. We used to get 305 units for N20,000, but yesterday, we bought N20,000 worth of units and received only 80 units, which lasted just one day. It’s referred to as the Band A group. I sincerely hope this will be reviewed.”
In a follow-up post, Igbokwe shared his frustration, recounting a similar incident. “Power supply in my area of Lagos has improved, but something unusual happened yesterday. We bought N20,000 worth of electricity, and it was completely used up within the same day. This is unsustainable, especially in these challenging times.”
