LAGOS (ChatnewsTV) — A former spokesperson for Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has expressed disillusionment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stating that the individuals capable of rescuing Nigeria from its current economic challenges have yet to be born.
Igbokwe, who actively campaigned for Tinubu during the 2023 general election, made his feelings known in a Facebook post on Friday after learning about the skyrocketing cost of basic commodities. Specifically, he referenced the price of rice, which has reportedly surpassed N100,000 per bag.
“With all the rice mills we have in Nigeria, my wife just told me that a bag of rice is now N100,000 plus,” Igbokwe wrote. “Without sounding immodest, I am constrained to say that the men and women that will rescue this country from self-inflicted pains and tears are not born yet.”
The outspoken APC stalwart’s comments come amidst mounting criticism of the Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy, which has seen surging inflation and increased costs of essential goods and services.
This is not the first time Igbokwe has voiced concern over the country’s financial trajectory. In a previous Facebook post just three weeks ago, he decried the rising cost of electricity, warning that it could devastate small businesses if immediate action is not taken.
“PBAT [President Bola Ahmed Tinubu], please look into the new electricity tariff in Nigeria. It will kill businesses if the government does not act as quickly as possible,” Igbokwe pleaded. “I have a small office in Surulere with about seven units of AC. We used to buy 300 plus units for N20,000. Yesterday, we bought N20,000 worth of units, and it lasted for just one day. They call it band A group. I pray that we review this.”
