APC Wins All 20 Chairmanship Seats in Ogun State Local Government Polls; Opposition Cries Foul

ABEOKUTA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clinched a decisive victory in Ogun State’s local government elections, winning all 20 chairmanship seats and securing control of the 236 wards across the state. The results were declared by the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, at the Commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, on Sunday.

“A total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship election across the 20 local government areas,” Osibodu reported, announcing the APC’s sweeping win.

However, the election results were met with fierce criticism from the opposition. At a press briefing in Abeokuta, the Labour Party’s Ogun State Chairman, Biodun Jagun, rejected the results and called for the election to be annulled.

“There was no election whatsoever in virtually all the polling units in Ogun State,” Jagun claimed.

“OGSIEC officials were nowhere to be seen in over ninety percent of the polling units, and there were no election materials at the polling units as of 1:30 pm. In the few polling units where materials were delivered, they were incomplete and arrived around 1 pm—far behind the scheduled 8 am start time.”

Jagun condemned the conduct of the polls, labeling it a “sham” and alleging widespread irregularities. “We totally reject whatever results that are declared in this sham of an election,” he asserted.

“We call on OGSIEC to cancel the entire election for being in clear violation of the electoral guidelines of Ogun State Electoral Law. If they fail to do this, we will challenge this charade in court.”

The local government elections featured participation from 19 political parties, including the Labour Party, People’s Democratic Party, Social Democratic Party, and several others.
