National Opposition Coalition Group, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally submitted a request to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party named All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
The application, dated June 19, was acknowledged by INEC on Friday, confirming the coalition’s decision to establish a fresh political platform rather than align with any existing party.
The coalition aims to tap into growing public dissatisfaction and capitalize on emerging political shifts to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general election.
The registration request follows INEC’s recent reminder that all political associations must strictly adhere to constitutional and legal guidelines.
It emphasised that no level of political pressure or public support would bypass the commission’s processes, adding that party registration is a detailed and constitutional exercise, not a symbolic gesture.
The application letter was signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets (Protem National Chairman) and Abdullahi Elayo (Protem National Secretary). The letter read in part:
It reads, “ “We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party.”
“This is a sequel to the decision taken by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor our association for full registration.”
“The name of the party shall be All Democratic Alliance with ADA as our acronym and ‘Justice for All’ as our slogan.”
Accompanying the application were all required documents, including the party’s constitution, manifesto, official logo, and minutes of foundational meetings.
According to the party, its symbol, a maize (corn) stalk, is intended to represent abundance, resilience, and sustenance which define its political agenda.
The letter added, “ We have further attached our manifesto encompassing details of our party ideology and our constitution providing the legal framework that defines our identity, structures, and organisation.”
