Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sympathised with President Bola Tinubu over his missteps while boarding the vehicle for the parade review during the celebration of Nigeria’s 25 years of unbroken democracy on Wednesday.
Mr Tinubu stumbled and fell off as he climbed into the back of the vehicle at Eagle Square.
He, however, raised up immediately to continue with the ceremonial rounds.
The incident received mixed reactions from Nigerians, who expressed divergent views, especially on the X platform.
While some expressed concern about the physical fitness of the president, others consoled the president, saying anybody could miss a step.
But the former vice president, in his X handle, said he hopes all is well Mr Tinubu after the incident.
“I sincerely sympathise with President Bola Tinubu, @officialABAT, over this unfortunate incident as he was set to review the parade on Democracy Day. I do hope that all is well with him”, Mr Abubakar wrote.
Meanwhile, the special assistant to the president on social media, Dada Olusegun, has described Mr Tinubu’s fall as a “mild misstep, adding that “no issue.”
Mr Olusegun disclosed this on his X handle shortly after the incident on Wednesday.
“Mr President missed his step while climbing into the truck at the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and tripped. It was a mild misstep. He immediately went on with the ceremonial rounds. No issues,” the presidential aide said.
