ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, questioning its eligibility for a second term in office.
Ibe’s remarks came in response to comments by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, who urged Northern politicians to refrain from contesting against Tinubu in 2027, citing it as the South’s turn to retain the presidency.
Speaking on TVC on Sunday, Akume asserted, “2027 is still the turn of the South to produce the President,” sparking controversy over the fairness of regional power-sharing in Nigeria.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Ibe highlighted the disparity in years of leadership between the North and South, arguing that the North has been shortchanged by six years.
“By 2027, the South will have governed for 17 years under Obasanjo, Jonathan, and Tinubu, while the North will have had only 11 years under Yar’Adua and Buhari. Where, then, does true equity and fairness reside?” he wrote.
Ibe also criticized Tinubu’s government, claiming it had not proven its worth to Nigerians. “The power to elect and vote out their government lies firmly with the Nigerian people,” he wrote. “But has the Tinubu government demonstrated that it deserves to be re-elected? The answer, alas, is as clear as the heavens themselves — God forbid.”
