INGOLSTADT, Germany (CHATNEWSTV) — German automaker Audi issued a public warning Friday about a sophisticated scam involving fake websites and catalogs offering nonexistent used cars for sale across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
The company said fraudsters are using realistic-looking websites, forged sales materials, and even images of real Audi employees to trick customers into paying for vehicles that do not exist.
“These fraudulent offers may appear legitimate, but they are entirely fake,” Audi said in a statement. “These criminals are exploiting the trust in our brand to commit fraud.”
The scam involves forged contact information, including fake email addresses, phone numbers, and bank account details. The goal is to entice unsuspecting buyers into transferring money for cars that are never delivered.
Audi confirmed that several customers have already fallen victim and urged anyone affected to report the matter to local police immediately.
“AUDI AG regrets the harm caused and is working closely with law enforcement,” the company said, adding that it has filed a formal criminal complaint and is supporting ongoing investigations.
Consumers are urged to verify vehicle listings through official Audi channels and remain cautious when encountering unusually low prices or unverifiable sellers.
