Bauchi, Kebbi, and Sokoto Named Most Expensive States to Live in Nigeria — NBS

ABUJA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — Bauchi, Kebbi, and Sokoto have been identified as the three most expensive states to live in Nigeria, according to the latest consumer price index and inflation data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Friday.

The report revealed that Bauchi State had the highest year-on-year inflation rate in October 2024, reaching 46.68 percent. Close behind were Kebbi at 40.02 percent and Sokoto at 39.65 percent, highlighting the economic pressures facing residents in these northern states.

In contrast, Delta, Benue, and Katsina recorded the lowest inflation increases during the same period. Delta’s year-on-year inflation stood at 27.85 percent, followed by Benue at 28.22 percent and Katsina at 29.59 percent.

On the food inflation front, Sokoto also topped the list, with a staggering 52.18 percent increase. Edo and Borno followed with 46.55 percent and 45.85 percent, respectively. The states with the slowest rise in food prices were Kwara (31.68 percent), Kogi (33.30 percent), and Rivers (33.87 percent).

According to NBS data, Nigeria’s overall inflation surged to 33.88 percent in October, driven largely by increases in food and petrol prices. Food inflation alone hit a record 39.16 percent, reflecting the strain on household budgets across the country.
