A man suspected of planning a serious attack against the German state motivated by jihadist beliefs has been detained, a spokesman for Berlin prosecutors said on Sunday.
The spokesman added that equipment suitable for making a bomb had been seized.
Police arrested the man in the Neukölln district of the German capital on Saturday. He was to appear in court on Sunday
The prosecutors’ spokesman provided no further details on the possible target of the planned attack.
The mass circulation Bild tabloid reported that a Berlin location was to have been the target.
The spokesman said that a unit from the police Special Task Force (SEK) had been deployed to make the arrest. The units usually go into operations heavily armed.
