YAOUNDÉ, Cameroon (Chatnewstv.com) — President Paul Biya has signed a decree convening electoral colleges for the election of Regional Councillors, setting the vote for Nov. 30, 2025, despite the existence of a sitting parliament.
In Decree No. 2025/412, issued Sept. 1 and published Monday, Biya ordered electoral colleges to meet in the chief towns of each division for the ballot. Voting will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the decree stated.

“The electoral colleges are hereby convened to the chief town of each division on Sunday, 30 November 2025 for the election of Regional Councillors,” Biya wrote in the decree.
The president further directed that the measure be published in the Official Gazette “according to the procedure of urgency and inserted in English and French.”
Critics say the decision underscores Biya’s reliance on presidential decrees to manage political processes, even with parliament in place.
“This is another reminder that legislative authority in Cameroon remains overshadowed by the presidency,” said a Yaoundé-based political analyst who asked not to be named for fear of reprisal.
Biya, 92, has ruled Cameroon since 1982, making him one of the world’s longest-serving leaders.
