British Man Sole Survivor of Air India Crash That Killed Over 240

Ramesh Viswashkumar, a 40-year-old British national, is the only known survivor of the devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that claimed over 240 lives.

Viswashkumar, who was seated near an emergency exit, credited his fortunate seat for his survival.

“He was near the emergency exit and managed to escape by jumping out the emergency door,” said Vidhi Chaudhary, a senior police officer in Ahmedabad.

Viswashkumar recounted the terrifying moments after the crash, saying, “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.”

He was traveling with his brother, Ajay, but unfortunately, there’s no information about Ajay’s fate yet.

Viswashkumar’s cousin, Ajay Valgi, spoke to the BBC, saying, “He only said that he was fine, nothing else.” The family is anxiously waiting for news about Ajay. “We’re not doing well. We’re all upset,” Valgi added.

Viswashkumar is married with a young son.

Police confirmed that Viswashkumar was the sole passenger known to have survived the crash, but rescue operations are still ongoing.

Chaudhary noted, “Chances are that there might be more survivors among the injured who are being treated in the hospital.”
