BUA Denies Near Completion Claim On 200,000b/d Refinery In Akwa Ibom

Port Harcourt — BUA Group has refuted claims that its 200,000 barrels-per-day refinery in Akwa Ibom is 90% complete, urging the public to disregard what it described as “misleading reports” not authorized by the company.

In an official statement, the company clarified that while the refinery is not at the advanced stage suggested in recent reports, construction is progressing steadily and remains on track to meet its delivery timelines

“Contrary to a misleading report stating that our 200,000 barrels/day refinery is at 90% completion, BUA wishes to advise the public to disregard such misleading reports that did not emanate from us,” the company stated.

Providing an update on the project, BUA assured that construction on the Akwa Ibom refinery is progressing steadily and remains on track to meet its delivery timelines in collaboration with its partners.

“Whilst the refinery is not at 90% completion, we are however on track to meet our delivery timelines in collaboration with our partners,” the statement said.

BUA emphasized that the refinery and petrochemicals project represents a significant milestone in enhancing Nigeria’s refining capacity and strengthening the nation’s energy security.

The company also highlighted progress on its other energy projects, including a mini-LNG plant and several new hybrid power plants across Nigeria, which will add capacity to its existing over 1,000MW installed captive power generation infrastructure.

“The public is advised to verify any news through our official channels and platforms so as not to be misled by mischievous persons,” BUA cautioned.

Reiterating its commitment to transparency and excellence, the company pointed to its history of completing over 12 mega industrial projects worth more than $3.5 billion in the last decade.

“At BUA, we remain committed to transparency and excellence. As we have consistently done with over 12 of our completed mega industrial projects worth over $3.5 billion in the past 10 years, we will continue to keep you updated with verifiable and accurate information only where necessary, and as milestones are achieved,” the company assured.

The company further expressed gratitude for the public’s interest in the refinery project, describing it as a transformative initiative aimed at building a stronger industrial and manufacturing base for a self-reliant Nigeria.
