Agency Report –
Two staff officers and, in the initial phase, a brigadier general will be deployed next week, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.
The soldiers will be in uniform but unarmed at the US-led civil-military coordination centre (CMCC), the ministry said. Reports said that some 200 soldiers are expected to be part of this centre.
The control centre is a military unit under US leadership that is being established in southern Israel near the Gaza Strip, according to US media reports.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the centre’s tasks include monitoring the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, clearing war debris and coordinating humanitarian aid.
Additionally, the ministry said that the centre would coordinate the integration, training and logistical support of the planned International Stabilization Force (ISF) for the Gaza Strip.
According to US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan, the ISF is intended to ensure security in the Gaza Strip. A senior US adviser recently said that many countries, including Indonesia, have offered to contribute troops to the ISF.
The unit has already commenced its work, the German Ministry of Defence said. No special mandate is required for the deployment of German soldiers, as “no involvement in an armed operation” is expected, the statement said. “Our partners have also committed to participating in the CMCC,” it added.
