CAF’s Disciplinary Board has awarded Super Eagles of Nigeria a 3-0 victory over Libya in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier following a breach of regulations by the Libya Football Federation. The ruling, made public on October 26, 2024, cited Libya’s violation of Article 31 of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Regulations, as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
“The Libya Football Federation was found to have breached Article 31 of the AFCON regulations,” stated the CAF Disciplinary Board. The scheduled match, initially set for October 15, 2024, in Benghazi, will be recorded as a 3-0 loss for Libya due to the forfeit.
In addition to the match forfeit, CAF imposed a $50,000 fine on Libya, payable within 60 days of notification. All other motions and appeals for relief were dismissed, confirming Nigeria’s path forward in the AFCON qualification.
