The CAF Disciplinary Board has handed down a ruling in the dispute between Equatorial Guinea’s Federación Ecuatoguineana de Fútbol (FEGUIFUT) and Congo’s Fédération Congolaise de Football (FECOFOOT) over their TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 qualifiers.
Congo was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Mankou Nguembete Japhet Eloi, during both legs of the matches held on Dec. 21 and Dec. 29.
“The integrity of our competitions is paramount,” CAF stated, emphasizing the importance of adhering to player eligibility rules.
As a result, both matches were forfeited in favor of Equatorial Guinea, with a 3-0 scoreline for each game. Additionally, FECOFOOT was fined $10,000.
The decision reshapes the qualification standings ahead of the CHAN 2024 tournament.
