Charly Boy Slams Wole Soyinka

Veteran singer and Nollywood actor, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has berated Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka after President Bola Tinubu renamed the National Theatre after him.

The thespian who is a staunch critic of President Tinubu slammed the revered professor on Friday in a post he shared on his official X handle.

 

Charly boy, while reacting to the pronouncement by the president, Charly Boy in his post, protested against the move, saying the “Mighty have fallen, for beans”

Speaking via his verified social media page, he tweeted, “Uncle WOLE I henceforth withdraw all the respect I once had for you.

“When late Jimmyjohnson talked about you in the 90s, I thought he was only yabbing you.

“Wow! How some of our MIGHTYs have fallen, for beans, ewa, dodo, is it for rice’?”

The president renamed the national theatre in Iganmu, Lagos after Soyinka, while sending a birthday message to the literary icon who turned 90 on Friday.

 

He also described him as a “national treasure” and commended him for his “unwavering dedication to the values of human dignity and justice”

 

Speaking via a statement Tinubu said, “It is also fitting we celebrate this national treasure while he is still with us.

“I am, accordingly, delighted to announce the decision of the Federal Government to rename the National Theatre in Iganmu, Surulere, as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.

 

“We do not only celebrate Soyinka’s remarkable literary achievements but also his unwavering dedication to the values of human dignity and justice.”
