JUNE 17, 2023 – BAODING (China) – New-look China make their way back to the top at home as they beat commercial side Sc. Yuanda 21-11 to win the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Baoding Stop 2023 on June 17.
Branding a fresh and youthful side this time around, China had a dominant run in the lead-up to the finals, ironically only losing to finalists Sc. Yuanda in an OT thriller. They turned up strong in the knockout stages, defeating Malaysia and an on-fire Japan team to book their spot in the finals.
With both sides enjoying home support in Baoding, it came down to the execution of game plans. China stuck to their efficient and gritty ways as they grinded down Sc. Yuanda’s momentum. Ming Zheng was crucial to their triumph, draining huge twos and drives to answer each time Sc Yuanda started to claw back. She put up 8 points in the game.
The star of the game and the tournament for China was undeniably Mingling Chen. Her 10-point effort in the finals along with timely rebounds and post-presence proved to be the difference-maker as she was named MVP for her efforts.
