Comptroller Usman Yahaya Commissions Quarter Guard at Ibeto Seaport and Terminals

...Celebrates Chief Ibeto on His Birthday

The Nigeria Customs Service Area 5, Ibeto Seaport and Terminals Port Harcourt Rivers State, says it has commissioned a Quarter Guard even as the command also celebrated the chairman Ibeto Group of companies, Chief Cletus Ibeto.

This was contained in a press release issued, signed and made available Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations officer, Emmanuel Tangwa,a chief Superintendent of Customs .

The statement stated that “History was made today Nov 6, 2025 at the Ibeto Seaport and Terminals Area 5, Command, Port Harcourt, as Comptroller Usman Yahaya officially commissioned a Quarter Guard at the Commands’ Headquarters, — a milestone that reflects discipline, authority, and institutional pride within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).”

In what was described as a significant coincidence, the ceremony also featured the birthday celebration of Chief (Dr.) Cletus Ibeto, CON, the Chairman of  Ibeto Group of Companies, after whom the Command was named.

The statement maintained that “as early as 1000hrs, a Guard of Honour was mounted at the Command, lending a ceremonial grandeur to the dual celebration.”

In his address, Comptroller Usman Yahaya underscored the importance of commissioning a Quarter Guard, describing it as “a mark of discipline, authority, and institutional pride.”

He insisted that the  “structure stands as a symbol of the Command’s readiness to uphold customs traditions, maintain internal order, and represent the Service with dignity and professionalism.”

The Customs Area 5 Command boss further expressed profound appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, dsm, fnipr, psc(+), for the confidence reposed in him and the officers of the Command  even as he assured that under his leadership, the Ibeto Seaport and Terminals Command would continue to grow to an enviable position through hard work, discipline, and teamwork within the Nigeria Customs Service.

The highlight of the event was the special honour bestowed on Chief (Dr.) Cletus Ibeto, CON, by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller, Yahaya in recognition of his outstanding contributions to industrial growth and national development on behalf of the Comptroller General of Customs.

In his remarks, Chief Ibeto expressed deep gratitude, saying, “I have never been honoured like this in my life.” Adding that the “honour has spurred me to perform more.”

He further pledged to upgrade the Command’s facilities to world-class standards, reinforcing his commitment to supporting national institutions and enhancing maritime infrastructure.

It is noteworthy that the Ibeto Seaport and Terminals Area 5, Command bears the name of Chief (Dr.) Cletus Ibeto, a testament to his legacy as a philanthropist, industrialist, and visionary entrepreneur.

Concluding, Comptroller Yahaya reaffirmed that the commissioning of the Quarter Guard was not merely ceremonial but symbolic of the Command’s discipline, authority, and operational excellence, serving as a beacon of professionalism and service pride in the Nigeria Customs Service.

According to him, the commissioning signified that the command has reached a mature operational level with adequate infrastructure, manpower and command structure befitting a full fledged Customs formation.
