RABAT, Morocco — In exactly 12 months, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 will kick off, marking Africa’s biggest sporting event and a milestone in the competition’s 68-year history.
Set to break records from the Côte d’Ivoire 2023 edition, the tournament will attract an estimated television audience of over 1.5 billion and more than 2.4 billion digital streams, organizers announced.
“Morocco is ready to showcase the best of African football and hospitality,” said a CAF official in a statement.
The 24-team tournament will run from Dec. 21, 2025, to Jan. 18, 2026, across world-class facilities, including Casablanca’s iconic Mohammed V Stadium, where Cameroon famously defeated Nigeria 1-0 in the 1988 final.
Fans will eagerly anticipate Morocco’s attempt to reclaim the continental crown, a feat last achieved in 1976. The group stage draw, scheduled for Jan. 27, 2025, in Rabat, will determine the teams’ paths to the title.
Before the AFCON, Morocco will host the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (March 30-April 19, 2025) and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (July 5-26, 2025).
The country’s football prestige soared further this month with confirmation as a co-host for the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
