Court of Appeal in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence of Dr Ramon Adedoyin, a prominent hotel owner.
Adedoyin was convicted in connection with the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife.
Adegoke was discovered deceased in November 2021 at Hilton Honours Hotel in Ile-Ife, where he had been staying.
In its ruling issued on Thursday, the appellate court confirmed that the previous decision by the Osun State High Court, which sentenced Adedoyin to death, remains in effect.
The Court of Appeal had reserved its judgment on this case on October 29, 2024.
The judgement read in parts, “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”
It further noted that the “Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside.”
