LAGOS, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — The All Africa Music Awards on Tuesday released its 2025 nominations list, with Nigerian superstars Davido and Burna Boy leading the pack with five nods each.
The two artists were nominated in top categories including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Collaboration, underscoring Nigeria’s continued dominance of the continental music scene.
Shallipopi, a fast-rising street-pop act from Nigeria, earned four nominations including Artiste of the Year, while Rema picked up three and Ayra Starr secured two.
From South Africa, Tyler ICU, Uncle Waffles and Tyla received recognition for their contributions to the amapiano wave, while Tanzanian stars Diamond Platnumz and Zuchu were nominated for Best Male East Africa, Best Collaboration and Song of the Year.
Kenya’s Sauti Sol, which recently disbanded, earned a nomination for Best African Group, a nod to their enduring influence. Ghana’s Stonebwoy and Black Sherif also featured prominently, with Stonebwoy nominated for Album of the Year and Best Male West Africa, and Black Sherif for Artiste of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.
Morocco’s El Grande Toto, Congo’s Fally Ipupa and Côte d’Ivoire’s Didi B were among the other regional standouts.
AFRIMA organizers said this year’s edition set a record with 10,717 entries, the highest in its 12-year history. “The process has been rigorous,” the jury said in a statement. “We are confident that the nominees represent the best of African music today.”
Public voting opens September 10 on AFRIMA’s official website and closes November 30 ahead of the awards ceremony.
