Davido Clashes with Abuja Barber on Social Media

David Adeleke, known worldwide as Davido, an Afrobeat music titan, stirred up social media on Sunday when he criticized Callistus Okolie, a barber based in Abuja and a fan of Wizkid. Okolie, who goes by the Instagram handle @Kallystouch, had labeled Davido as the third biggest musician in Nigeria’s music scene.

Okolie made the comment on a series of photos Davido posted from his trip to Dubai on Sunday, stating, “The only 3rd man in the music industry 003.” Unhappy with Okolie’s characterization, Davido swiftly retorted, “@kallystouch I have saved your picture. I would have visited Abuja, and you would have trimmed my nearly finished hair, but you prefer social media.”

Davido further stated that Okolie had missed out on a “generation’s blessing” because he had helped his previous three barbers set up their own salons. “My last three barbers, I opened shops for them. That’s how you missed your generation’s blessing,” he added.

On Monday, Okolie, who tweets as @Kallystouch on X.com, hit back at Davido with a video of a customer he had given a stylish haircut to, asserting that Davido had lost the chance to get a haircut from the best barber in the FCT. He posted, “Davido just missed the opportunity to have a haircut from the best barber in Abuja.”

In another video that went viral on X.com, Okolie criticized Davido for his reaction. He maintained that Wizkid is, in his opinion, the top musician in Nigeria’s music industry. He also emphasized that he was not seeking assistance from anyone, including Davido.

“FC does not beg, write it down, FC does not beg. Wizkid remains my 001 in the music industry, no cap. I did not say that to hurt anyone or to pull anybody down. Again, there is a statement Davido made that he was coming to Abuja and I would have been his barber, I would have been the person to cut his hair, how?” he wrote.

He continued, “Do you know me before that I would have been your barber? If not for my comment would you have replied to me? Let’s be realistic, do you know me before? You don’t know me before? FC is number one. Apart from that, I’m not begging anybody, Davido is not my helper, because whoever will help me will not stress me, Portable has said it before.”

This marks the second time in less than a week that the singer has faced backlash on social media. On April 29, 2024, Wizkid ignited the microblogging site, X.com, when he took jabs at both Davido and Don Jazzy. This controversial tweet led to Wizkid trending at number 4 on Nigeria’s X trends. During a series of exchanges with his followers, Wizkid ridiculed Davido for a recently leaked viral video in which he was seen on his knees, crying and pleading with someone believed to be a female associate.
