Agency Report –
Roughly 2,000 residents in the north-western Germany city of Bremen are to evacuate their homes on Sunday as authorities plan to detonate four unexploded World War II bombs discovered at a former petrol depot.
Police confirmed on Saturday that the 500-kilogram aerial bombs cannot be safely defused, necessitating a controlled explosion.
The evacuation, affecting those within a 1,000-metre radius, will begin at 8 am (0700 GMT), with detonations scheduled for early afternoon. Emergency shelters will be available at a nearby school.
Police said the unexploded bombs were discovered during site surveys at the former petrol depot in northern Bremen.
The find was first reported on Monday, and explosives experts examined the ordnance on Saturday to assess the safest course of action.
