Berlin – Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich lead the way in Europe when it comes to average attendace in top flight matches, according to a UEFA report published on Monday.
Manchester United and Real Madrid are meanwhile ahead in overall attendance in their 2024-25 matches, the ruling body’s European Club Talent and Competition Landscape report said.
Dortmund and Bayern both sold out their stadium for all matches as the 100% capacity gave them an average of 81,321 and 75,000, respectively.
Real filled 85% of their seats for an average of 73,345, and United had 73,342 across all Premier League matches for a 97% capacity.
The unique attraction of Germany’s second division meanwhile saw Schalke come 10th in the ranking with an average 61,655 and 99% capacity.
Looking at overall attendance in all competitions, United led the way with 2,200,286 coming to Old Trafford, with Real attracting 2,053,673 to the Bernabeu. San Siro saw 1,996,917 fans attend Inter Milan home games, with Dortmund (1,951.696) and Bayern (1,875,001) following.
Bundesliga teams have two league home game less than teams in England, Spain and Italy, as well as other cup formats.
The German top flight filled its stadiums to an unrivalled 96% over the season, and 254 European clubs reached at least 50% cappacity.
England’s Premier League tops average attendance with 40,389 per game.
UEFA said that a record 233 million fans attended matches, with almost half of them – 113 million – recorded for men’s domestic league matches. Women’s league football drew 4 million fans.
