Agency Report –
After the positive reaction in the 2-2 Bundesliga draw against Bayern Munich on Saturday, Borussia Dortmund want to achieve “a great football miracle” in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona.
Dortmund were thrashed 4-0 in the first leg in Spain last Wednesday, but didn’t have time to mourn, with the top league clash at Bayern next on their schedule.
Dortmund took the lead before Bayern turned the game around in their favour, but the guests snatched a point thanks to Waldemar Aton’s goal in the 75th minute.
Speaking about the return leg against Barcelona, coach Niko Kovac said: “For me, it’s about approaching the game in such a way that we want to win it and show in our stadium that we can keep up with Barcelona.”
But Dortmund’s task against the team led by coach Hansi Flick on Tuesday won’t be easy.
Sporting director Lars Ricken said that a potential qualification to the semi-finals “would probably be the biggest football miracle in Borussia Dortmund’s history.”
But Dortmund “owe it to the fans” and have to give everything. “The goal must be the win,” Ricken told broadcasters Sky.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl was pleased with the reaction his team showed against Bayern.
“We put up a really good fight here,” he said, while captain Emre Can added: “The team showed a completely different picture.”
