Dr. S. Jaishankar Makes History As The First Indian Foreign Minister To Visit Nigeria

New Delhi, January 18, 2024 – The External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar  is set to embark on an official visit to Nigeria from January 21 to 23, 2024. The visit is marked by significant diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening the enduring ties between India and Nigeria.

Key Highlights:

India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting (JCM): EAM will co-chair the 6th India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting with his counterpart, fostering discussions on bilateral cooperation and shared strategic interests.

Nigeria-India Business Council Meeting: The 3rd edition of the Nigeria-India Business Council meeting will be inaugurated by EAM, reflecting the commitment to enhance economic collaboration and trade relations between the two nations.

Address at Nigerian Institute of International Affairs: EAM will deliver a speech at the prestigious Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, sharing insights on global affairs and reinforcing the bonds of friendship.

Interaction with CII Business Delegates: EAM will engage with delegates from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), fostering business ties and exploring opportunities for mutual economic growth.

Inauguration of Mahatma Gandhi Bust: A symbol of shared values and ideals, EAM will inaugurate the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, underlining the cultural and historical connections between India and Nigeria.

Regional Conference of Indian Heads of Missions: EAM will chair the regional conference, providing a platform for Indian Heads of Missions to discuss regional priorities and diplomatic strategies.
