LONDON (CHATNEWSTV) — The foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom on Saturday endorsed an Arab-led initiative for the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, calling it a “realistic path” to improving the territory’s dire humanitarian conditions.
“The plan shows a realistic path to the reconstruction of Gaza and promises—if implemented—swift and sustainable improvement of the catastrophic living conditions for the Palestinians,” the ministers said in a joint statement.
The proposal, developed by Arab states, seeks to rebuild Gaza while ensuring long-term security for both Israelis and Palestinians. The European ministers emphasized that Hamas “must neither govern Gaza nor be a threat to Israel anymore” and called for a central role for the Palestinian Authority in managing the reconstruction process.
“We explicitly support the central role for the Palestinian Authority and the implementation of its reform agenda,” the statement read.
The ministers commended the Arab states for their efforts and urged all stakeholders to use the plan as a starting point for further discussions on security and governance in the region.
“We are committed to working with the Arab initiative, the Palestinians, and Israel to address those issues together, including security and governance,” they said.
The joint statement follows months of diplomatic discussions on the future of Gaza as international pressure mounts to find a sustainable political solution to the conflict.
