Edo State: Oshiomhole’s Candidate Joins Edo Governorship Race

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, former Secretary to the State Government of Edo State, has officially expressed his intention to participate in the 2024 governorship race in the state.

Ize-Iyamu was Governor Godwin Obaseki’s major rival and Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s candidate in the 2020 governorship election which he lost.

Making the declaration on Wednesday, he announced his decision to run on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and reaffirmed his commitment to the SIMPLE agenda.

Ize-Iyamu outlined the components of his agenda, stating, “Security, Infrastructure Development, Manpower Development, Public/Private Partnership, Leadership by example, and Employment creation.”

This marks Ize-Iyamu’s third attempt at securing the Edo governorship office. In the 2020 election, he contested on the APC platform but was defeated by Governor Obaseki, who ran under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

During his declaration, Ize-Iyamu reflected on his experience, saying, “Having served as Secretary to the State Government and a previous governorship candidate of the party, I possess the required experience to be governor. We lost the 2020 election because our leaders outside the state chose to vote against us.”
