KANO, Nigeria (chatnewstv.com) — Nigeria’s anti-graft agency has arrested Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over the alleged mutilation of the national currency after a video showing her wiping her nose with naira notes went viral on social media, officials and local media reports said.
Operatives of the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Inuwa on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, following public outrage over the footage, which circulated widely online.
In the video, the actress is seen using naira notes to clean mucus from her nose, an act that Nigerian law classifies as abuse or mutilation of the currency.
The arrest came after the EFCC traced Inuwa for questioning in connection with the incident, according to reports from Kano.
“She is currently in custody at the EFCC detention facility in Kano,” a source familiar with the matter said, adding that investigations were ongoing.
The EFCC said Inuwa would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
Under Nigerian law, the abuse, defacement or mutilation of the naira is a criminal offense, and the EFCC has in recent years intensified enforcement actions against individuals accused of mishandling the currency, including public figures whose conduct draws widespread attention.
The case has reignited debate on social media over celebrity conduct and the enforcement of laws protecting Nigeria’s national symbols.
