TALLINN (CHATNEWSTV) — The President of the Riigikogu (Estonian Parliament), Lauri Hussar, began a two-day visit to France on Monday, focusing on bolstering European security and reinforcing support for Ukraine, according to a statement from Estonian parliament press officer Maris Meiessaar.
“France is a very important partner and ally for Estonia,” Hussar said. “We highly appreciate France’s contribution to the collective defense of the Baltic region. Close cooperation between the allies is more important now than ever before.”
In Paris, Hussar is scheduled to meet with the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, and Senate President Gérard Larcher, as well as French lawmakers, including members of the France-Estonia parliamentary friendship group. Discussions will center on military aid for Ukraine, strengthening Europe’s defense posture, and transatlantic relations.
On Tuesday, Hussar will attend a Senate session where a declaration on Ukraine is set to be debated. He is also expected to visit MBDA, a leading French defense contractor, and take part in a roundtable on U.S.-France relations with security experts.
The statements stated, that the Estonian delegation includes Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Marko Mihkelson, Estonia-France Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairman Andres Sutt, and group member Tõnis Lukas.
The visit will conclude with a meeting at the Estonian Embassy in Paris, where Hussar will engage with Estonians residing in France, the statement said.
