BRUSSELS (ACHATNEWSTV) — Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal attended the European Council meeting in Brussels on Thursday, calling for stronger EU support for Ukraine and tougher measures against Russia.
“Europe must show that it stands firmly behind Ukraine. Promises must be followed by actions,” Michal said, emphasizing the need for sustained military and financial aid. He also urged continued pressure on Moscow, including sanctions and seizing frozen Russian assets to limit its ability to wage war.
Michal also pushed for reducing bureaucratic hurdles for businesses, arguing that simplifying EU laws and making sustainability reporting voluntary would boost competitiveness. “This is what our companies are waiting for,” he noted.
EU leaders are set to discuss broader geopolitical issues, including the Middle East, migration, and ocean protection, as well as the next multi-annual EU budget and an extended eurozone summit. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to join them for a working lunch.
