COPENHAGEN (Chatnewstv.com) — Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal met Wednesday with his Nordic and Baltic colleagues and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Danish capital to discuss Ukraine’s security needs and the path to a just and lasting peace.
“Good work has been done in planning the security guarantees of Ukraine since the meeting in Washington. We will continue these discussions today,” Michal said before the meeting.
He added, “It is worth noting that the greatest supporters and closest friends of Ukraine are meeting on the same day when Putin is attending a military parade with his autocratic friends.”
Michal said Ukraine has shown willingness to negotiate, while Russia continues its assault. “Ukraine desires peace and has demonstrated readiness to negotiate with Russia to achieve this. Russia does not want peace. Instead, brutal attacks against Ukraine continue. Putin has not agreed to establish a ceasefire or make any compromises,” he said.
The Estonian leader stressed that Ukraine’s involvement is crucial in all talks. “Nothing concerning Ukraine will be agreed on without Ukraine. This makes the face-to-face discussion with President Zelenskyy especially valuable,” Michal said.
He also underlined regional unity in supporting Kyiv. “Based on ratios, we are the greatest supporters of Ukraine as a region, as well as by countries, and the biggest contributors to our defense. We will carry on in the same vein. We support Ukrainian sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity unwaveringly,” Michal said.
The meeting took place at Marienborg, the residence of the Danish prime minister. Denmark currently holds the presidency of the NB8 format.
