TALLINN, Estonia (CHATNEWSTV) — Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal on Monday urged Armenia to continue reforms aimed at strengthening ties with the European Union, as he hosted Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his first official visit to Estonia.
“You have firmly chosen the path of strengthening relations with the European Union. Estonia supports you in this,” Michal said at a meeting in Tallinn. “Make the most of the process. Reforms bring tangible benefits, first and foremost to your own people. Our own experience 20 years ago can confirm this.”
Michal reaffirmed Estonia’s commitment to supporting Armenia’s efforts, including advancing visa dialogue and extending EU support mechanisms.
The two leaders also discussed the regional security situation, cooperation on building a digital state, education, and economic development. Michal praised Armenia’s progress toward a peace agreement with Azerbaijan, welcoming the consensus reached on the text and expressing hope for its swift signing.
Highlighting Estonia’s digital transformation, Michal said, “In December last year, we reached the point where all our public services are now 100% digital. We are bringing AI into schools to prepare young people for an ever faster changing labor market.”
He cited an Estonian-led project by Proud Engineers, which automates data exchange between Armenian banks and tax authorities, as a model of practical cooperation. Estonia is also assisting in training Armenian teachers and boosting innovation in the education sector.
Michal added that Estonia’s development agency, ESTDEV, is helping diversify Armenia’s economy and advising small businesses on expanding exports.
The Estonian leader stressed the importance of continued support for Ukraine and maintaining pressure on Russia over its attacks on civilians.
