Stenbock House, 9 October 2023 – Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, today kicked off on a two day walking visit to Greece.
The European Iron Lady, Kaja Kallas and Estonian head of government will be meeting with her Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis and with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou tomorrow in Athens.
According to a press statemet relased on Monday, “These meetings will focus on enhancing cooperation between Estonia and Greece and on security issues, including cooperation within NATO. Support for Ukraine and raising the cost of aggression for Russia will also be discussed, as will topical matters related to the European Union, including migration and EU enlargement.
Prime Minister Kallas says that although Estonia and Greece are located in different corners of Europe, we share similar values. “As small maritime nations living beside much bigger neighbours, there is a lot of overlap in terms of how we think and what we value,” she said. “We are strong allies in NATO and work together as good partners in the EU.”
On 9 October Prime Minister Kallas is to be presented with the Lord Byron International Prize by the Society for Hellenism and Philhellenism in collaboration with the Academy of Athens.
While in Greece, the Estonian head of government will also be meeting with Juhan Lepassaar, the executive director of the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA).
