Estonian Prime Minister to Join EU Leaders for Budapest Talks on Security and Competitiveness

Prime Minister Kristen Michal of Estonia will attend a gathering of EU leaders and the European Political Community in Budapest on Thursday, where he is expected to emphasize the importance of European unity amid escalating global tensions.

“We must stand here today for a strong and solid Europe,” Michal said ahead of the meetings.

“Undermining European unity, blocking aid going to Ukraine, and making friends with the aggressor will take our continent further from lasting peace. We must not let the aggressor reshape Europe’s security architecture.”

The European Political Community meeting, set to begin late morning Estonian time, will bring together leaders from more than 40 European nations to address pressing security challenges, including Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine and the recent turmoil in the Middle East. Michal will participate in a roundtable session focused on strengthening European economic security and connectivity following the meeting’s joint opening plenary.

Michal is also slated for bilateral meetings with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani.

In the afternoon, Michal will join an informal European Council meeting with EU heads of state and government, where they will discuss enhancing European competitiveness and review recent developments in Georgia.
