BRUSSELS (CHATNEWSTV) — The European Union and the United States have welcomed the signing of a final border agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan, marking a significant milestone in regional stability and cooperation.
“This is an important moment and a significant step forward based on dialogue and peaceful resolution of disputes,” said EU High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas in a statement on Thursday. “The agreement will strengthen the resilience and stability of Central Asia.”
The EU, which has long supported regional cooperation as a cornerstone of its own governance model, expressed readiness to assist in the agreement’s implementation under its Strategy for Central Asia and the Joint Roadmap for Deepening Ties between the EU and the region.
Washington also hailed the agreement as a historic achievement. “This accomplishment reflects the commitment of their governments to diplomacy and regional stability,” said U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce. “Settling border disputes is one of the most difficult diplomatic tasks a government can undertake, and we commend the vision and determination of both governments’ leaders to overcome obstacles.”
The agreement, which finalizes the delimitation and demarcation of the entire border between the two Central Asian nations, is expected to pave the way for enhanced trade, people-to-people exchanges, and long-term peace in the region.
“The United States hopes this landmark agreement opens the door to robust trade and people-to-people ties and to increased prosperity and peace for both countries and for the greater region,” Bruce added.
The deal marks the resolution of longstanding territorial disputes that have occasionally flared into violence. Both the EU and U.S. emphasized their ongoing commitment to supporting Central Asia’s stability and economic development.
