LVIV, Ukraine (CHATNEWSTV) — The European Union on Saturday joined Ukraine, the United States, and other international partners in calling for an immediate, unconditional 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, urging Russia to demonstrate genuine intent to end its war of aggression.
“The EU remains steadfast in its commitment to a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine, grounded in the principles of the UN Charter and international law,” said EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in a statement issued on behalf of the bloc.
The EU welcomed recent diplomatic initiatives and said the proposed ceasefire could “serve as a vital step toward reducing civilian suffering and allow space for meaningful talks for genuine peace.”
Borrell stressed that it is Russia’s turn to take action. “As in the past, it is now for Russia to show its willingness to achieve peace,” he said.
The statement was endorsed by non-EU participants attending an informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Lviv, including Moldova, North Macedonia, Norway, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
