Brussels (ChatnewsTV) — European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Donald J. Trump on his election victory, reaffirming her commitment to a robust transatlantic alliance.
“I warmly congratulate Donald J. Trump on his election as the 47th President of the United States of America,” von der Leyen said in a statement released early Wednesday. “I look forward to working with President Trump again to advance a strong transatlantic agenda.”
The European Union’s relationship with the United States is pivotal, von der Leyen emphasized, as it embodies a deep-rooted alliance forged through a shared history, values of freedom and democracy, and mutual economic interests.
“The European Union and the United States are more than just allies,” she noted. “We are bound by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens.”
Von der Leyen called for continued cooperation on economic matters that benefit both sides of the Atlantic. “Millions of jobs and billions in trade and investment on each side of the Atlantic depend on the dynamism and stability of our economic relationship,” she said.
