BRUSSELS (CHATNEWSTV) — The European Union on Sunday warned of “far-reaching consequences” from Israel’s new legislation restricting UNRWA operations, saying it could severely impact humanitarian aid in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza.
“The EU condemns any attempt to abrogate the 1967 agreement between Israel and UNRWA or obstruct the agency’s capacity to fulfill its mandate,” said EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in a statement.
The EU reaffirmed its support for UNRWA, emphasizing its critical role in assisting Palestinian refugees across the region.
“Essential service delivery is even more relevant now, with the urgent need for ceasefire implementation and hostage releases,” Kallas added.
The statement also urged the UN to address allegations that some UNRWA staff had ties to Hamas and to strengthen oversight.
“We look forward to further decisive action to ensure neutrality, accountability, and prevent further cases,” the EU said.
