BRUSSELS (Chatnewstv.com) — The European Union and Egypt will hold their first-ever summit in Brussels on Oct. 22, the European Council said Thursday, marking a new stage in ties under a strategic partnership launched last year.
European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will represent the EU, while Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will lead his country’s delegation.
According to the Council, the meeting builds on the comprehensive strategic partnership signed in March 2024, aimed at deepening political and economic cooperation while promoting “stability, peace and shared prosperity.”
“The summit will provide an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and address common challenges,” the Council said in a statement.
Leaders are expected to cover regional and global issues, including the conflict in the Middle East, Russia’s war in Ukraine, multilateralism, trade, migration and security.
