BRUSSELS (Chatnewstv.com) — The European Union on Monday extended sanctions against individuals and entities accused of destabilizing Sudan and obstructing its political transition, keeping the measures in place until October 2026.
The decision came a day after the bloc called for peace in Sudan, urging rival forces to halt fighting and commit to negotiations.
The measures prolong EU-wide travel bans, asset freezes and funding restrictions on 10 people and eight entities linked to the conflict.
“For two years, the war in Sudan has brutally impacted the lives of millions of civilians,” the Council of the EU said in a statement.
“Responsibility rests on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), and their affiliated militias.”
The 27-nation bloc has repeatedly targeted figures tied to both the RSF and SAF since adopting a dedicated sanctions framework in October 2023. Additional rounds of restrictive measures were imposed in January, June and December 2024, and again in July 2025.
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell earlier this year urged Sudan’s warring parties to agree to “an immediate and lasting ceasefire” and to negotiate “in good faith for a sustainable peace, where territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty are respected.”
The EU said it would continue working with the international community and “use its diplomatic tools and instruments, including restrictive measures, to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict and a lasting, inclusive political process reflecting the aspirations of the Sudanese people.”
