BRUSSELS (Chatnewstv.com) — The foreign ministers of France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, along with the European Union’s top diplomat, on Monday pressed Iran to ease tensions with Israel and return to the negotiating table, warning against abandoning the global nuclear non-proliferation pact.
“We are deeply concerned by the rising tensions in the Middle East and urge all sides to exercise restraint,” the ministers said in a joint statement following a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The ministers, collectively known as the E3, and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself “in adherence with international law,” while urging a diplomatic path to avoid further escalation.
They also raised alarms over Iran’s nuclear activities, saying the program “largely exceeds any credible civilian purpose” and noting continued non-compliance with international safeguards.
“We call on Iran to take concrete steps toward re-engaging in negotiations,” the statement said, warning that any move to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty would be “a grave development.”
The officials underscored their commitment to regional stability and a negotiated resolution to the nuclear dispute, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward.
