EU Welcomes Mozambique’s Presidential Dialogue, Encourages Continued Political Engagement

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – The European Union (EU) has welcomed the meeting between Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane on March 23, 2025, calling it a positive step toward reconciliation in the country.

“The EU encourages all political actors in Mozambique to continue engaging in meaningful dialogue that will restore trust in public institutions and bring about the urgent reforms necessary to meet the aspirations of the Mozambican people,” an EU spokesperson stated.

The EU highlighted the importance of democratic governance, respect for human rights, sustainable development, and a prosperous economy that benefits all Mozambicans.

“We stand ready to support such dialogue and the implementation of any reforms agreed upon by Mozambican stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
