LAFIA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu on Wednesday declared his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Nasarawa State under the banner of the All Progressives Congress.
“I am answering the call of my people who believe I can serve and move Nasarawa forward,” Adamu said during a meeting with members of the APC State Working Committee in Lafia.
Adamu, who led the Nigeria Police Force from 2019 to 2021, said his decision followed a “clarion call” from residents urging him to run. He touted his leadership experience and background in public service as key strengths that set him apart from other aspirants.
“If elected, my administration, by the grace of God, will be inclusive, transparent, and focused on delivering tangible development across all sectors,” he said.
The former police boss joins a growing list of contenders vying for the APC ticket in the next gubernatorial race in Nasarawa, a north-central state that has remained a stronghold of the ruling party.
Party leaders in attendance said they welcomed Adamu’s ambition and pledged a level playing field during the primary process.
