FBI Captures Most Wanted Fugitive Arnoldo Jimenez in Mexico

CHICAGO (CHATNEWSTV) — Arnoldo Jimenez, one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, has been captured in Monterrey, Mexico, more than a decade after being charged with the 2012 murder of his wife, Estrella Carrera, authorities announced weekend.

Jimenez was taken into custody without incident on January 30 by agents of Mexico’s Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) and Interpol, following a joint investigation by FBI Chicago, FBI San Antonio, and the U.S. District Court for Northern Illinois. He remains in custody pending extradition proceedings.

“The FBI is extremely appreciative of the Burbank Police Department, our law enforcement partners in Mexico, and the public for their tremendous investigative efforts,” said Douglas S. DePodesta, special agent in charge of FBI Chicago. “The FBI will use all of its available resources to bring criminals to justice, no matter how much time has passed or where they may be in the world.”

Jimenez had been on the run since May 13, 2012, when Carrera was found fatally stabbed in her bathtub less than 48 hours after their wedding. He was charged with first-degree murder in Cook County, Illinois, and later federally indicted for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

“The apprehension of Arnoldo Jimenez was the result of the tireless teamwork by the FBI and Burbank Police Department,” said Deputy Chief William Casey of Burbank Police. “We were committed to bringing justice for Estrella Carrera and her family.”

Jimenez became the 522nd person named to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, established in 1950.
