By Gabriel Ani

Abuja, October 26, 2023 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the attack of a Nigerian citizen in Philippines.

In a statement released late Thursday night by the spokesperson of the Nigerian foreign ministry, Mrs. Francisca K. Omayuli, the ministry voiced its deep concern and condemnation over the tragic loss of a Nigerian national in the that country.

The victim, identified as Mr. Chibuike Emmanuel Chukwuneke, met his untimely demise on the 21st of October, 2023, allegedly succumbing to complications stemming from severe mistreatment by individuals reportedly hired by his Chinese employer following a dispute.

Francisca K. Omayuli (Mrs), the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated, “We have received with sadness and grave concern reports of the tragic death of a Nigerian national in the Philippines on 21st October, 2023.”

According to official police reports obtained by the Nigerian Embassy in the Philippines, the altercation began when Mr. Chukwuneke sought fair compensation, following the termination of his employment, due to allegations of contract violations, including lodging his girlfriend in his official accommodation.

Ms. Omayuli emphasized, “While there is no justification for the deadly attack on the deceased, the Federal Government calls on Nigerians living in the country to remain calm and law-abiding as the Philippine authorities continue their investigations.”

In alignment with the diaspora component of the 4-Ds Foreign Policy strategy, the Federal Government of Nigeria remains committed to protecting the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians, irrespective of their location.

Furthermore, Ms. Omayuli reaffirmed, “The Nigerian Embassy will persistently pursue the matter with relevant authorities, including the Philippines National Police (PNP) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, until the perpetrators are brought to justice.”

The Federal Government of Nigeria extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Mr. Chibuike Emmanuel Chukwuneke, offering prayers for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
