FIBA licenses Basketball World Cup 2023 broadcasting rights in over 190 countries

MIES (Switzerland) – The unprecedented global demand to watch FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 action has been illustrated by the issuing of broadcasting rights for the flagship tournament in over 190 countries.

There is extensive coverage of FIBA’s biggest event in all three of the host countries of the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

Through broadcast partner Cignal in the Philippines, OneSports is the primary home for the competition, while there is comprehensive news and supporting coverage on TV5 and live games available via Smart’s OTT service. Meanwhile, public broadcast channel PTV4 is also carrying OneSports’ broadcasts of the Gilas Pilipinas games.

Through FIBA’s rightsholder Dentsu, both Nippon TV and TV Asahi are sharing live coverage of the Japan national team games, with DAZN also having extensive live coverage of the tournament.

In Indonesia, fans can see games on a variety of services through rightsholder RCTI, including a number of key matchups on the free-to-air iNews channel.

Following on from the successful hosting of the previous FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2019, fans in China will be treated to another feast of basketball action, with all games from this year’s edition available through Tencent. There will also be a number of live games offered by the state broadcaster, CCTV.  Furthermore, it was recently announced that Migu will stream live action on its digital platforms, giving the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 unparalleled distribution in China.

Elsewhere, the global impact and ability to draw substantial broadcast audiences is demonstrated by the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 being shown on some of the biggest names in sports broadcasting.

These include the likes of:
ESPN (USA, Australia and Brazil)
beIN Sports (MENA and France)
Sportklub (Balkan territories)
Magenta (Germany)
Sportsnet (Canada)
DAZN (Italy)
NOVA (Greece)
DirecTV (LATAM and Caribbean territories).

Meanwhile, in order to ensure the biggest audience possible for the event, there will also be significant coverage on free-to-air services.

These include:
RTVE (Spain)
France  Televisions (France)
TV3 (Lithuania and Latvia)
RTS (Serbia)
ERT (Greece)
RAI (Italy)

In Africa, tournament debutants Cape Verde and South Sudan are being broadcast on RTC and MTN, respectively. Cote d’Ivoire games are being shown on RTI, while state broadcaster TPA will televise Angola’s games. This all complements the coverage across sub-Saharan Africa on StarTimes.

Finally, FIBA’s official streaming service, Courtside 1891, will be available globally, featuring both live games and an extensive collection of highlights packages and other features from across the tournament.
