FIFA president Gianni Infantino has spoken out against the plan by the world football governing body to introduce a blue card into the sport.
“Blue cards? This is a topic that is nonexistent for us,” Infantino clarified to Sky UK. “If you want a headline, it is: red card to the blue card. No chance, no way.”
Last week, reports emerged suggesting that the International Football Association Board had greenlit trials for the blue card. This potential introduction would have marked a significant departure from the traditional yellow and red cards, which have been fixtures in football since the 1970 World Cup.
However, in response to immediate criticism of the plans, Infantino dismissed the notion of the blue card entirely. His firm stance indicates that FIFA has no intention of adopting such a measure in football’s disciplinary system.
